community Service - Aleppo Pine Removal

1. Aleppo pine originated from the Mediterranean areas which includes Greece, Italy and Southern France
2. It was planted to act as a windbreak for farmers. It as planted as a forestry tree and was recommended as a shade and shelterbelt plant.
3. The Southern Yorke Peninsula Landcare Group is keen to remove it as it is a weed and restricts native plant growth, which restricts native animal growth. It spreads quickly and is a hazard to roads and overhead powerlines, as well as fire danger. They also rob other plants of water and nutrients and competes with other plants. The tree also damages roads, fences and structures.

1.They would volunteer becuase they care for the environment and if they did not have any support they wouldnt get any job done.
2. I felt really good about helping this small group. Even though we only participated in doing a little bit, I am sure everyone enjoyed the hard but fun work as you would never have this oppurunity if you live in the city.
